I got 2 Blackcurrant bushes cheap (50p each) & will be planting them tomorrow. I was wondereing if they will produce fruit this year?

I'm not absolutely sure but i think if you plant them quick, you should get fruit this year, i am hoping for some on mine, i think they fruit on new growth and are ( hopefully ) decent croppers but this depends on the type i assume.

by the way where did you get them?

We planted some last year and they fruited that year, not much fruit but enough for a taste. Looking at the bushes now though, I think we will have more this year (says she, hopefully)A garden is a lovesome thing, God wot! (Thomas Edward Brown)

I think they might be all over the country, but i'm in Wiltshire & they are in most towns here Hypnophil

I planted bare root bushes last year & the advice that came with them was to cut them back & not let them fruit so as to allow the roots to establish. A few berries started forming & I picked them off before they developed. This year I can let them fruit.
