If you see a small side shoot of this years semi ripe wood you can either break or cut it off to about 10" long with the cut being just under a bud. Take all of the leaves off bar the ones growing at the tip and plunge the cuttings into a john innes based compost with some added grit up to about halfway. Water in well and put somewhere frost free and in good light. At this time of year a windowsill will do very well. They should root in about 4-8 weeks and will grow well next year. It may be prudent to strike a few cuttings as you may lose a few.

Thanks Piglet - I've got 2 figs in barrels with 50 little potential fruits apiece, so I'll protect them with fleece and see what happens. Didn't bother last year but still got lots of fruit.
