  • Anyone else gone mad with strawb plants?

I posted last week about the growbags I bought at the garden centre with the strawberry plants in them - 6 growbags with 48 strawberry plants for £2. I love a bargain (the mulch has been great for breaking up the clay soil in my raised beds).

I've been back twice to get more and as of last night I have 60 strawbs planted with at least another 30 stashed in a bag awaiting places to put them. I've got them stuffed in pots, baskets, a trough made out of scasffolding boards, a wheelbarrow and some in the greenhouse in front of the staging. Has anyone else out there gone a tad daft with strawbs this year? I don't even like them that much.

flipin ell i said you were mad with 30 now you've lost the plot you will be selling them come the tennis, as i said before you will have treble the amount of plants next year i reckon you should prepare yourself and go on freecycle and request loads of pots and flog the excess next year at a boot fair

I only keep 12 plants as I don't like it that much. Last year they produce runners like mad. I pot them up individually last year...give them to my neighbour 2 weeks ago, she was very happy, got 15 free plants full of flowers .
        I grow, I pick, I eat ...

I thought i was bonkers by planting 50 strawberry runners over the weekend. In theory, we should have a succession of fruit..next year. Fingers crossed our endeavors are.....fruitful....

              Tee hee

I have my veg, I have my strawbs and I have my tulips with multiple personality disorders and we're all very happy together. This is my first year gardening, when I do things I tend to go a little overboard.

I make excellent jam, unfortunately I don't like strawberry jam. My stepkids come and stay with us all the time (12 & 14), they're quite excited at the prospect of a strawberry glut.

Now, I didn't tell you how many tomato plants I have in the greenhouse did I?

I passed Kirrie on the way to Dundee on Saturday, we were rained off the garden so went to Poundland to look for garden goodies. Should have given you a shout and you could have popped the kettle on, need to see this retro greenhouse of yours.

Wishing now I got up the garden centre sooner and bought more, I love strawberries and 10 plants are no way enough for me and my son. So I am planning on boosting my strawberry count to fifty plants next year.

i bought 10 at the beginning of the year over the internet but they were very small although they have grown a lot but each time i go to the allotment i think they look a bit lonely so i get a few more here and there, i thought they looked quite impressive until i saw another plot and his were magnificent rows and rows of lovely plants full of flowers oh well theres always next year!!

The trouble with strawberries (esp.from your own runners) is that they're NOT successional ... you get a glut ~ all ripe in the same fortnight in June!

I have 2 beds of them this year ... I meant to dig one out but didn't have time, and now they're starting to form fruit I can't bear to kill them. I'll be taking the glut in to the staffroom and earning lotsa brownie points

one can never have enough strawberries!!!.

i have 12 plants and 1 runner i'm trying to get to take. then i saw in one of the magazones they are offering 10 runners for only the cost of p&p, and i'm very tempted!!.(must check when that offer expires!).
