Rhubarb??

Where is the best place to put Rhubarb?

Rhubarb is one of those vegetables that will grow pretty much anywhere, so long as the soil has plenty of organic matter in it, and the selected site is not constantly battered by high winds.
However, a spot in full sun can cause the plant to run to seed quite quickly so if you have a semi shady corner then rhibarb is the ideal way to utilise it.

Hi I have just nicked 2 lumps off my nanna's garden (is ok she said I could) and have put them in 2 different places - one gets a fair bit of shade and the other is quite sunny. I figured as it was free we could experiment a bit to see which worked better.

They have both gone a bit wilty though, but I guess this is the shock of the move.

Thank you very much. Yes rhubarb crumble and rhubarb jam - mmmmmmm!!!! I have quite a shady spot near the pond i could put it. The only problem is that that is where the pond gets emptied onto when the filter is cleaned. once or twice a year - would this be ok or not and if not can you suggest anything which i could grow here.

How long would it take for rhubarb to grow from seed?

I'm growing rhubarb from seed this year - sewed 6 - 5 still alive - got 3 leaves and just starting a little red stem - if youre interested i'll keep you informed of how they manage .......

I know rhubarb is a vegetable, but most people look for it under Feeling Fruity, so I'm leaving the current threads where they are!

Hi All, as we're talking Rhubarb I wondered if you could help me.

My rhubarb is in a pot, I bought it last year and I moved it about 3 months ago and it was doing fine, however in the last week it appears to have stopped making new growth...there are no buds waiting to burst into leaf, is this normal or is something wrong?? It's sharing a pot with another rhubarb bought this year which is bursting with new growth daily.

Rhubarb is a hungry plant. I wouldn't think 2 in a pot, however big the pot, would cope. Give them a pot each and rich compost.
