  • Rhubarb

We have just picked our first helping of Rhubarb it was delicious, but when we went back to pick some more it has grown a large stem around 5ins around and with a large cone shaped sphere on the top .If it was the end on the season I would think it had gone to seed.Has anyone else had enything like this and can we still eat it

It's trying to form a flower. Break it off, don't let it flower as this can weaken the plant.

Drought and sometimes older plants are likely causes of flowering.
Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs!

Yep - sure sign that a flower is on the way - snap off as low down as possible so the plant can carry on putting its energy into being productive.

Yes, it's a flower forming. I would say cut it off rather than snap, but that's just me and I always carry a little sharp knife with me on the lottie.
