  • Strawberry spacing

I have allocated a 1.2 x 2.4m bed for my strawbs. How many plants can I squeeze in to get the largest and juiciest possible harvest?

I don't know the answer to that, but I've planted 24 in a 90cm * 2.4m bed in a 3x8 grid (ie 3 rows of 8 plants) at my allotment which seems a reasonable spacing.

In my back garden I have 18 plants in a 90cm square bed, so slightly more densely planted.

About six inches apart, I reckon, either in rows or blocks. Do watch out for the runners, though - they will root anywhere and everywhere and you will end up with a tangled mess just like the one I'm trying to sort out at the moment.

I just guessed mine! They are probably about one foot apart each way, staggered. This spacing has worked for me in the past.

I plant mine in rows: about 15cms wide and about 15cms between plants.
          Rows face south.
And I cut off all the runners otherwise it resembles a jungle floor...

i grow mine in pots and put 5 in a 2 ft by 1ft pot spaced evenly i give them liquid growmore and potash and i have masses of flowers coming and at the rate there going the yield will be exceptionally high, i have a 125 plants so will be looking like a strawberry come june. i put plant pots of compost at side of the pots to plant the runners in and when rooted snip the runner of to avoid a tangled mess i also only allow so many plants to do runners and snip the runners of the other plants before they really start to grow just as there starting to show otherwise you get less fruit, and become over run with the runners.
good luck, strawberries are quite tolerant to most situations so long as you dont bury the crown.
