    help I always get this mixed up. Do you cut back red currants to the ground, or do fruit grow on last years wood...let me know

    No don't cut them down. Red currants need little pruning only to keep the bushes open and in shape. They will fruit on old and new wood. Summer pruning is best in June, cut back the new growth by about 2 thirds. This will allow the fruit to ripen - make sure you protect from the birds.
    I train mine as cordons. makes for easier picking etc.

      ta beryl, i was eying my bushes today, should I shouldn't I. I think I would have if it wasn't frosty. Anyway ta for your reply. ta ta cazxxx
