    Petit Gris de Rennes melons

    Hi

    I'm growing these for the first time this year, can someone please give me some idea how big they get and if its possible to train them up a structure?

    I have a feeling I haven't left enough space in the greenhouse for them (it) I've really only got the door end, so was hoping to train one over the door...... one each way...

    Not sure how big the plant gets but in Melons, it says the fruit is 4.5" long x 4.5" wide, weight 2lbs, midseason maturity (81 to 90 days).

    It sounds a real tasty melon, where did you get the seed from? Would you like to swop some seeds with some Charentaise canteloupe I'm trying this year?

    If you read French (I used google!) then it has its own website.

      I only got a few seeds from a friend, she got them from the realseed.co.uk site. I've used all mine I'm afraid.

        If you go to the website link you put up here,( Thankyou ) and use the google translation tools, you can get a (very) bad translation of the text. Click on the organic magazine link and it gives some interesting info, especially the photo that shows the melons growing up ropes.

          Thanks anyway womble - I've seen somewhere with the seeds for next year - hope to see some photos of your 'success' later on!

          ps where are you growing? Could you put your location in your info (via the User CP)?

            "IF" I manage to grow a melon you can have some seeds from that
            On that website you gave me btw, it says they graft all the melon plants onto another root stock, thats interesting, but beyond me to imagine.

            No location yet, I'm too mysterious for that atm.

              They graft the melon onto squash rootstock to protect from fusarium (sp?) wilt.

              Lol! You're 'hidden' behind a keyboard, how much more mysterious can you get?!
