  • new canes ( glen ample )

oh help me and tell me i'm worrying about nothing !!
I love raspberries and have purchased a set of 12 canes this march - I then dug a big bed and dug in lots of manure
I seperated the canes carefully ensuring they had some root attached ( this is where I think i've gone wrong ) spaced them about 12" apart in a bed with wires ready for new growth and STILL nothing has happened
Surely they should have sprouted by now?
Are you supposed to plant them in one big clump then seperate later ? Will they recover ? argh argh so many questions
p.s thanks to all who reassured me about the courgette crisis - i'm an allotment car crash lol

How to grow your raspberry plant cane with pictures.

It's a summer raspberry, heavy cropper. I would say you've got them too close together, and possibly planted them too deep (they need to be shallow) Raspberry Glen Ample Canes (Main Floricane) at Unwins

Was your manure fresh or well-rotted? (fresh is high in ammonia and will burn plants)

You want the roots 2 to 3" below ground. But if you've done everything right then go and get your money back. I've had no-shows off bunches that have been kept in pots all winter and died off due to the heavy frosts. It is better to get them off a retailer that keeps them in trenches because the soil is always 4-6 degrees celsius warmer. Proximity will not have killed them off.
