fruit trees in the cold

I tried strawberries in the polytunnel last year in hanging baskets as I was running out of space. Had major problems keeping them watered (but now I now to put a bowl in the bottom of basket, thanks to answers on previous posts!). I didn't get much fruit, but once the runners started leaving the basket, it looked like the hanging gardens of Babylon!
