Fruit and vegetable company

Does anyone know much about this company? They have an offer on at the moment for every three fruit trees you buy (£14.95) you get the fourth half price. If anyone has had stock off them would be interested. If anyone has any good suplliers of fruit trees, who are relatively cheap (haven't got lots of money and many trees to buy!). Let me know. Will be growing mine over arches next year. Looking for apples and pears.

It's a fairly new company. I got my winter onions from them last year and they were great so I ordered this winters onions from them. With fruit I always use Ken Muir. Everything we have bought has always been good quality and I would use Ken Muir again if I ever needed any more fruit bushes. www.kenmuir.co.uk or Deacons Nursery 01983 840750 have a big selection. Price wise I think the Fruit And Veg Company will be cheaper.

Buckinghamshire Nurseries are great. I ordered two apple and one plum tree from them (£12.95 each). They call/email you about delivery and if you have any special requests they accomodate you. The trees came well packaged and look healthy (at least for this time of year). Its me first attempt at gowing them so I have my fingers crossed!

I may be too late in answering (only just discovered this forum) but I've had lots of plants from the Fruit & Veg co (they do ornamentals too as offers in other mags) - maybe about 30 in total - and they've all been very good bar one specimen - and when I pointed that out it was immediately replaced. I'm afraid I haven't ordered any fruit trees from them but in general I can recommend them.

First tree arrived today

My braeburn arrived today, and the quality seems to be excellent, so it will be planted tomorrow. Came in the nick of time, I just had two arches made for the fruit tunnel. Will let you all know and post up pictures. The specimen is nicely grafted to an M9 stock and quiet mature. Fantastic quality. Let's see if it grows.

Braeburn

Braeburn planted and pruned to shape, reduced the laterals to 7" to create short fruiting spurs over the archways (had them made, cost £28 for two archways).

Anybody tried the Victoriana nurseries advertised in GYO? Their blueberries sounded very cheap at £6.60

Marshalls is a catalogue supplier, the quality has always been excellent and they have always been willing to replace any stock that died or was damaged.

Not in our neck of the woods but a good supplier. If you want to see your purchase before hand, I suggest Gordon Riggs in Todmorden, a real nursery compared to the Rochdale site, which is just a garden centre.

Fruit & Vegetable co

This company started up 18 months/2 years ago by people that left Marshalls when it was taken over by Levingtons.
They are advertising in lots of places and I suspect that they are over extended and also buy in all that they sell.
They seem to have moved recently and not told their customers!
I placed an order with them in January, the cheque was cashed but no delivery made. Tried to ring them many times (on an expensive 0870 number) and was always put on hold as 'all of their agents are busy'. Gave up trying to ring and wrote instead without receiveing a reply. Wrote again after a month and this time did get a reply that they had been waiting receipt from their supplier. They did not think to tell me of this. They do not seem to have a website and their letterhead does not show an e-mail address. I think that they have grown to quickly and are unable to cope, I will not order from them again.
When buying fruit trees/bushes it is always best to get them from the actual grower and to go for quality rather than quantity. Cheap trees will be small and could take several years to fruit.

Yes I have used Victoriana. A good company to deal with, quick personal service and reasonable prices.

I've been onto them and they have told me that all fruit trees will be despatched from the 13th March - will let you know when they show up, have had one tree off them not as good as Marshalls. They were younger specimens but I would rather have younger trees for cordoning.

All my fruit trees have now turned up. The final one (Apple Family tree) arrived this evening at 5 PM.
It was not the one I ordered but I am happy to keep it. There was a letter with it apologising for the change. As it will be my only tree there is little to concern me in respect of having doubles of apple types. Had I owned other Apple trees then it could have been more of a problem. The main reason for buying a Family grafted tree is normaly lack of space. A phone call or e-mail to check would have been a good thing. (The company in question is Mr Fothergills.)
