  • Strawberry crop

I've never had so many strawberries as this year, that includes in the midlands where they always did well.Is it just me or are we all doing well? The dreaded grey mould is claiming a few but I just remove those each day.

I did 22 jars of Strawberry jam on Weds, I'm still picking. Flans and on there own with Fromage Frei. Got about another 6Lb in the freezer ready for more Jam, I've ran out of jars so will put an order in with Lakeland tomorrow. been a good year!

My other half wants to know why her jam didn't set,she added a few raspberries , tay berries and gooseberries as well.Tastes superb, just runny. She did use the sugar for jam making and even added some veggie gelatine and it's still not set.

I didnt have enough for jam.....

I only had a few strawberries this year probably 10 from about 12 plants, but I am hopeful next year will be a fantastic year for strawberries. My question though.... I have taken a few cuttings? from the runners that the strawberry plants have produced is there a limit to how many I can take. The runners are now producing runners. Will they still produce fruit if I take too many runners from one plant.

Mine did not set at first attempt. I used equal amounts of strawberries to 'Whitworths' sugar for jam making.
No big problem, it went back into the pan was reboiled and pectin was added, purchased from the COOP. Brought up to boiling pont and re-potted, set the second time no bother!
