Blackcurrent confusion

Gosh, all sounds quite exciting!
The branches are not thorny and the flowers are quite beautiful, deep pink hanging in lots of upside down cone shaped clusters of lots of little flowers. I will try and load some more photos but my inadequate technical skills seem to have deserted me...

I was just looking on other current type sites and found a picture of a bush with the same flowers as mine...it is called Ribes malvaceum - the Chaparral currant. Unfortunately no picture of the currents, so not positive, but does this sound familiar to anyone?

oh...there is another one which looks the same too - Ribes sanguineum glutinosum the Pink-Flowered Currant. I am now thoroughly confused

yeah think were on the right line, its one of the flowering currants of some sort,not common thou,
would be intresting to find out if fruit is edible, would of thought at worst inedible, but not poisionous?, great bush,
we have a pink flowered ribes grows wild were i work but never forms fruit,
but his could be due to location (heavily shaded)

It does look very like that snadger though it doesnt have the white waxy material that is mentioned on the site. Of course I have tried eating them and wouldnt say they taste terrible, just not sweet...but then perhaps I just havent timed my snacking very well so far. If anyone is interested in any updates as I carry on my observations then let me know and I will post on this thread if anything of note occurs, otherwise thanks all for your input and interest.

Actual blackcurrants are not nice to eat raw (in my opinion). You really have to ladle in the sugar. I use them for jam or with apple in pies.

Well I have cooked up some 'blackcurrent' ish jam, and am just awaiting the results...I guess if I can get cordial and jam from the bush i don't really mind what it is!

I would say NOT a blackcurrant but an ornimantal ribes as the fruit of currants, jostaberrys hang DOWN and i have looked at loads of currants and never seen any that look like that and the leaves are just not right !
I would be inclined to throw the jam away hun and buy 2 new bushes so you know for sure what you have !!

Hmmm...but, the jam was good...and tastes very much like blackcurrent jam too.
I might just take my chances and stick with them...I'm a loyal sort
