  • Soil mix for container citrus?

The GYO offer citrus 'trees' arrived (yippee!!) - while I was still researching the soil to use in the containers...

One website says John Innes 3, another says John Innes 2 with about 50% 'sand'.

Being a very finicky Virgoan, I want to get this exactly right.

    What's best please?

Also, would someone please remind me what sand to use in composts in general (ie. when fuchsia taking cuttings etc.) ? Should it be builders' sand or not. I believe there is an issue about salt in some sand?

Whatever, I promise not to nick it off Weymouth beach

    Thanks

    Keith

RHS says this: "Repot only in spring, using a John Innes No 2 potting compost with extra grit or sharp sand. If the roots are not congested, simply topdress by replacing the top 5cm (2in) of compost."

I got a small citrus tree, then planted it up in special citrus compost. It didn't like it at all. Went back to normal potting compost, and it's growing nicely.

I bought two in March and repotted them into John Innes no2. They're doing really well.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
