Gooseberry plant - advice please

Hi all,

I bought a gooseberry plant from lidl a few days ago and i am looking for advice on how to plant it etc?

I have in the past tried twice to grow them in my garden but failed each time

This one is a bare plant with no foliage and has a bag surrounding the roots(not sure if this is the normal way to purchase these or not?)

Anyway i want to plant this in a pot.Is this ok? and if so does it require anything special after that?

Is this an ok time of year to plant it? should i protect it over winter in the first year (if i get that far!!)?

A few questions i know but i really want my own gooseberry bush

Not a great start to have them in August without foliage. But once you have it, soak well and plant up quickly, it might be alive or might not. Wait and see.

Could mulch around it with well rotted manure in the spring or mix a bit with soil in the planting hole. Would be better if it could go in the ground, but peeps grow fruit successfully in containers, it's just a lot of feeding, watering and pruning.
