  • favourite raspberry varieties

Hi, I`d like some advice on the best raspberry varieties to grow for flavour and disease resistance.I`d appreciate any suggestions.

As far as Autumn Fruiting rasps go I have Autumn Bliss and All Gold (the yellow ones). Both have been excellent in the two years since planting, both of which have been wet cool sumers yet still abundant crops. The Autumn Bliss right now are huge and wonderfully tasty.

Joan, Joan, Joan. I might have over-emphasized that a bit...

        Hi
Raspberries pretty much divide into Early, Main Season and Late followed by Autumn. To get a really long picking season, you want a few of each and then you can pick from the second week in June (in the South) to the end of September and sometimes into October (although you need some sun)

Early - nothing to touch Glen Moy -its the earliest
        Main Season - Glen Ample
        Late Season - Tulameen
Autumn Fruiting - cant argue with Mugsy - Autumn Bliss.

Here is a good site for raspberry canes

        Good luck

        Ade

I've had Autumn Bliss for a good few years now and can't fault them. Very easy and reliable. Am thinking of planting some summer type ones in the new lottie but not yet decided which type so will watch this thread with interest.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Thanks everybody,It`s difficult to know what are good varieties because you get so much conflicting info. I think I`ll definitely try Autumn Bliss

I'd go for Autumn Bliss too. We planted 20 canes three years ago. That's just way, way too many. Yesterday I picked 4lb and gave them to my mum as I'd only managed to pick around one third of the raspberries present, so that still leaves 8lb for me to pick and freeze today. And by Saturday there'll be just as many again..........HELP, in previous years this level of production has continued for 6 weeks! My OH is keen to try a few Autumn Gold as he's heard they make a fabulous wine, but if they're anything like their cousins I think he's going to be restricted to half a dozen canes at most.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
