Rhubarb rhubarb

Having had a lot of trouble with caterpillars in my brassicas (and thats not easy to say quickly!) Ive found a lot of holes in my rhubarb leaves - is this the same thing? I've actually pulled up the holey leaves and cooked the rhubarb (lovely!) but read somewhere that I should really let it settle for the first year. Still a few stalks growing and the crown looks OK, it was just the leaves that were eaten. What does everyone think? Many thanks dexterdog

I had some caterpillar trouble last year with my peas. and when I pulled them up, they all moved onto my rhubarb!

I ended up with skeleton leaves on my rhubarb in the end - but it didn't seem to have much effect on the rhubarb. It still came up strong this year.

My rhubarb was new last year with holey leaves and I just left it all (oh the temptation to eat the rhubarb was hard to resist).

If I were you, I'd just leave it be - it might look a bit unsightly to leave the holey stems, but I'm sure your rhubarb will benefit if you leave it alone. That's just my opinion though

oops slug! I took off the worst offending leaves and stems but have left a few on there. it was lovely, especially with a bit of ginger added! dexterdog
