Why bother? Unless you want to create a new variety. Usual way is to decide which variety you would like, then buy plants. Can be planted around now or in spring - I've had better results with autumn planted ones.

Cos in a few years I want to emmigrate - to Colombia and really want to be able to grow raspberries. This will be the best way.
Yes i've done it and yes it works.......but it does take a long time to get them to fruit.
I bought two lots of seed off named varieties (Glen Moy was one I think and the other was something ending with een?) off eBay and set them in 5 inch pots. Nothing happened at first but ages later.....maybe six months or so I noticed the seedlings had sprouted. I think they needed a period of stratification.
Anyway, I potted up some plants and they grew to about 6 inches last year.
This is there third year and they appear to have a similar growth to my other raspberries so hopefully I will get a few rasps next year, which will be three years from the initial sowing!
