  • what to do with the fruit trees until I can plant them?

I got some apples trees today (lidl). Can't really get them in the ground til we get back from our mini-break. So prob not for 10 days. What do I do with them til then?
Leave them in the wrapper, punch holes and put in a bcket of water? Take wrapper off and soak? Leave them as they are? In the shed or outside?

Advice needed please. I know they were only 3.99 but it was a 35 mile round trip to get them so don't want to kill 'em just yet!

I planted some fruit trees two years ago. The site was not ready so I soaked the roots in a bucket of water over night. I then planted them in the ground on a temperary site and watered them in.

They were like this for about a month before I planted them in their final position. All survived with no problems and are doing very well.

The main thing is don't let the roots dry out!!!!!

Within the next day or two, I would dig a hole and loosely bury them with soil, followed by a very good watering. Leave them there until you're ready to properly plant them. Plant them all in the same hole, if space is limited. It doesn't even matter if they point in all sorts of strange angles.

Don't let them dry out (not a problem in soil at this time of year), but I'd be equally concerned about leaving them in a bucket of water for 1-2 weeks and potentially drowning or rotting the roots in the process.
