I have aurumn raspberry canes growing several feet beyond the raspberry bed, under and beyond my blackcurrent bushes. The raspberry bed has gaps with no canes and don't know why. Can I move the wanders back into the bed and when can I do it?

You can move them, yes. Just dig down to find the root, then cut it off from the parent plant, and replant it.
The best time to do it is during the dormant season, but as long as the ground is moist I reckon you could probably get away with doing it now, especially as you don't really want to leave the canes to grow ina amongst your blackcurrant. Get them out, replant them, keep them watered, most of them should take.

And dig a root barrier membrane in around the raspberry bed to stop them spreading out across the plot.

Mine started off in a nice fruit area, they're now in my neighbours garden about 3 meters away. He's delighted!Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs!

If you've got gaps the canes have probably used up most of the nutrients in the soil. They don't have deep roots to draw up nutrients from below so appreciate a good mulch of garden compost every year. If you move the escapees back, add plenty of compost as you replant them. I put all my grass clippings under the raspberries through the summer and feed them in early spring. They don't show too much inclination to roam then, I find.Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
Endless wonder.
