  • Raspberries pruning

Is it too early to prune summer fruiting raspberries? As they are dying back, it’s easy to see this years canes that have fruited.

be fine to prune them any time after they've fruited - be a bit careful of how you dispose of the old canes if there is any sign of disease, either burning or the green waste at the council.

Also if possible give the cut canes a good shake or leave them somewhere for a day or two, they are often full of ladybirds hidden in the dying leaves. I always pop them into my bin and leave it with the lid open for the rest of the day, you'd be amazed at how many ladybirds climb out. This applies to lots of pruning done at this time of year.
Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs!
