  • rhubarb rhubarb!

I have recently taken on an overgrown allotment, and in digging it over have cut through some hidden rhubarb roots. I am wondering, if replanted, these will grow again to start off a new clump somewhere else?

Normally you lift this after the fruiting season, but if it's in the way, give it a go, don't let it dry out though.

If the roots you cut off have buds on already then they should grow into new plants (as long as you keep them watered). If they don't then they almost certainly won't (there's an outside chance it might have a dormant, latent bud beneath the skin, but it's very unlikely).

I had a plant that disappeared for a year and then came back.
They can come back from quite small bits of root.
