M27 apple trees

  • M27 apple trees

    Hi all

    I have 3 m27 apple trees on my allotment it's the only size we are allowed

    I planted them as 1 year maidens this year they have taken nicely but my question is shall I remove the small fruits bloisom that is appearing this year

    If you only planted them in the winter just gone, then yes, remove the flowers this year.
    If you planted them the winter before then it should be fine to let them fruit.

        It's never a bad idea to let the tree put its energy into roots and creating branch structure for the first few years. I've always got rid of all flowers until about year 3/4.

          I planted a new apple tree last spring. I followed Bob Flowerdew's advice to leave one apple to grow, so I could check I'd been supplied with the correct variety.
          Mostly flowers, some fruit and veg, at the seaside in Edinburgh.

            That's what I usually do, too (well, I usually leave two or three, as if you only leave one it may end up shed prematurely and then you have no back-up).
