  • Problem with apple tree

We have an old eating apple tree in the garden which has produced lots of apples over the years. There seems to be a problem this in that a lot of the leaves, etc are brown. There does appear to be some apples but nowhere near as many as we usually get.

Can someone look at the photos below and let me know what the problem is and how to resolve. Thanks.

I think its blossom end wilt, a fungus disease. I have a lot of it on apple trees in my garden this year. My guess would be that the weather suited the fungus.

Not much to be done except for snipping off the dead bits and getting rid of them as far as I know. A bit of a bloody nuisance as it seems to affect branches near the top of the tree mostly.

Thanks for that. Am I OK to snip these off now?

Yes, cut them back to the next healthy stem/leaf.

The spring we had was perfect for a lot of Fungi this year nice and cool and damp then pumfh a very hot spell.

My Apple trees seem to take a year off every other year. i haven't got anything on them this year but last year was a bumper harvest.
