  • Redcurrant bushes - what do they like

I popped to B&Q last week, and a couple of these jumped into my trolley.

They look pretty good and thoroughly dormant.

the plot is clay and the water is about a spade's depth down.

are they likely to prefer the soggy (rich) clay or the inexplicable bank that has poor, better drained soil?

Mike according to GYO's guide red currants don't like being waterlogged, have a read here:-

Last time I planted some I just threw some cuttings into the clay soil like spears. They are now a year on and look like they have plenty of buds on them.

        Thanks
Plot70, I now have visions of you hurling them like javelins to plant at long range

I shall see what state the ground is in tomorrow.

It's forecast to drop to -1 on Thurs night and Friday night. If I get them in tomorrow that should be a problem should it?

They are frost proof and and left over wood often sprouts in the compost heap.
Your plants will just wait until it is warm enough and then grow on.
