  • Strawberries producing fruit - remove or leave

With the cooler weather and same rain my strawberries are flowering, fruiting and producing runners. I have tried peg down the runners to get some young plants. Should I let the plants continue to flower and fruit and perhaps ripen or will it affect next years crop and so I should remove all flowers and fruit so the plant retains its energy for next year. Thanks

A few flowers have appeared on mine.
I am leaving them as there are plenty with no flowers. There is a chance of a small number of late fruits.
The bed is due for digging up for deep weeding this winter so any old and feeble plants will not go back in. The bed has already been thinned by allowing any weak plants to die out when the weather was very hot and dry. I just stopped watering until the right number of plants needed for next year remained.

I’d leave them to fruit, they’ll still have a period of cold for dormancy to have the energy to produce fruit next year. Only let two runners grow from each plant, something I read about years ago, maybe to do with an energy drain on the plant if more than that grow or maybe they’ll be stronger runners if just two grow,I can’t remember the reason
