  • Pruning redcurrant cordons

I am about to net my redcurrant cordons and I am wondering if I can do the summer pruning (trim back side shoots to 4 or 5 leaves) before netting as this will make it slightly easier as they seem to have put a lot of growth on this year. Usually i dont do the pruning until after i have harvested the fruit. If i prune before harvest will it have a detremental effect on the fruit ?

    What do you do ?

It shouldn't have a detrimental effect on the fruit, however I would still say it's too early to prune. The reason being, if you prune too early it will just grow again after you prune it, and you may well end up having to prune it a second time later in the summer.
