  • Raspberries on the balcony

    Hi guys,

I planted raspberries in a pot on a terrace this spring. From the beginning they sprouted new shoots, one shoot is over 1.5 meters long. However, after a few months, the new shoots began to dry, starting from the lower leaves. At first I thought I had over-watered them, but even less water didn't help them.

Does anybody know what I did wrong and whether there is a way to save them?

    Thanks in advance

    Milan

    Raspberries are quite vigorous
Do you know what variety you have?
It's best to get a dwarf variety that is less vigorous and more suitable for growing in a pot - I'd say the ones on your photo are not happy to be in a pot.

I have Tullameen and Malling promise, unfortunately I didn't pick a dwarf variety, just a regular one

I have Ruby Beauty in a pot. It's a dwarf and seems happy. Been in the pot 3 or 4 years. I don't get an enormous harvest, but commensurate with the size of the plant. A handful every day for a few weeks, and tasty enough. Ordinary raspberries are extremely vigorous.
Mostly flowers, some fruit and veg, at the seaside in Edinburgh.

I have a raspberry Malling Promise growing ina builders bucket.
It's very happy in that size container and produces well but is extremely vigorous.
The roots have grown out through the drainage holes in the bucket so I think you need a bigger container.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
