  • Useless apricot

I have a Petit Muscat. Has grown into a sizeable tree in about 10 years but haven't had much fruit.
Lots of flowers and have found unripe fruit on ground
I am considering cutting it down.
Anyone got any ideas why no fruit. Very disappointing.

Lack of pollination. That's what it always is with apricots.
Either it flowers too early for there to be any pollinators about, or it's rainy the entire time it's in flower, or late frosts kill the blossoms (although they can survive down to -1 before they are killed).
I would try hand pollination. Early morning is the best time, as that's when the pollen is freshest.

Those small number of unripe fruit dropping off are likely just the normal June drop. Damaged fruit or fruit which did not properly pollinate are naturally shed.

      Thank you.
I have bumble bees in the garden 365 days a year. The only thing that stops them is heavy rain. There's always something in flower as well as the apricot.
I'll dig out the artists brushes next spring. The tree is usually full of flowers
