  • Source of "rose pots"?

    Hi

I'm doing a spot of apple grafting, and wanted to put the resulting plants into what I believe are called "rose pots" until the trees go into the ground next year. I have one or two that are ~23cm tall (or deep, depending on how you think about it) and ~13 - 14cm across that contained fruit bushes I bought.

I want square ones because I have a feeling that the roots of plants grown in square pots grow out better into the surrounding soil once planted out.

So far, I've managed to find a supplier who can sell me 200 (see https://www.lbsbuyersguide.co.uk/extra-deep-pots-2ltr), but this is about 190 more than I need. I've found a few places that sell round ones, but not square ones.

Any ideas where I could get hold of 10 - 12? I suspect I could ask a nursery, but they might just point me in the direction of their own bulk supplier...

No harm in offering to buy a few directly from the nursery?….maybe they would give you a few damaged ones too?

I would just ask your local nursery. Seems like a bit of a waste if you only need 10

No idea what these people are like, Harry, but they've got assorted sizes of deep round pots in small quantities:

Edited to say: I googled for deep round plant pots buy uk. There look to be other suppliers as well.

Many thanks for the replies. I was hoping that they might be more generally available since they appeared after about 2'25" into this video of Monty Don propagating fig cuttings - https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p08t6bdl

Round ones seem to be readily available, but I'd set my heart on square ones!

Sorry, Harry, I didn't post the right thing. Have a look here to see if you can find the dimensions you're interested in:
              https://elixirgardensupplies.co.uk/p...i_tEU6Wl8QtKf0

They give dimensions towards the bottom. Ten of the 2-litre pots work out at 8.59. Supposedly free delivery to mainland UK.

Hi Snoop - once you click through to the individual sizes, they look as if they have a very similar profile to normal square pots (on the landing page there does seem to be a tall pot...). I've found somewhere on eBay called "avagrow.co.uk" that seems to have something akin to what I'm after - I've emailed them to find out more details, and will report back here when they reply.

I buy stuff from Elixir occasionally - they sell things (often at a good price - it's where I bought a 500g bag of flowers of sulfur to give my blueberries a treat) that can be a little difficult to find elsewhere.

Of course, I'm more than happy to accept that my web-searching technique may not be up to modern standards, and that this is the root of my problem.
