  • First ever Lemon!

I'm thrilled. I've had little success with Citrus but this year my tiny tree had 4 good sized fruit. Dark, dark green. One which had been mostly hidden under the leaves was suddenly missing yesterday and I was really fed up.Then I spotted it under the tree fallen off. Yellow and ready! Yippee!
It also has another 3 tiny fruit and two flowers as well as the other 3 full sized ones. This weather has obviously been very good for it. It's been outside since June.

    That is fantastic news!!
Never been able to grow the plants for more than a year ( if that!!)
Now then.....have you decided what to do with it????
Don't forget to use the zest too!!
-That's when you've finished showing it to everyone!!

That's really cool, I'm not surprised you're chuffed to bits! Are any of the others looking like they'll ripen? Let us know what you decide to do with it!

If at first you don't succeed, open a bottle of wine.

I've got it with me now and keep giving it fond looks and sniffing it, It really looks and smells like a lemon.
First it attends a photo shoot. Then one slice has a starring role in a perfect gin and Tonic or maybe a classic dry Martini. In the Garden of course. I may even pull some of the twigs, birdseed etc out of my hair for the occasion.

The zest of half the lemon and all the juice will be the prime ingredient in my Italian lemon chicken with capers dish. The other half of the zest will feature in dessert....

I am astonished at how quickly it ripened. It was as green as the others and is not the biggest. I noticed it was looking paler on the underside a couple of days ago but now it's completely yellow.
Apart from the intrepid climbing Cucumber this is my most rewarding GYO yet.
