    Evening fellow grapes!

I have succumed to the bargins at wilkies today!
I have bought a rasberry bush for £1, i have never grown fruit before and have just gotten to grasp with my veggies! Ive done some research on here todayand most advice ties in with Autumn or summer and how many canes..., This is just one cane and the box doesnt say if its autumn or summer fruiting so im after a bit of all purpose , general advice on what i should be doing with it really, oh and i rent my house so im looking to grow it in a large container/pot.
    Any help would be appreciated

I got a load from there last year and am sure it had pictures instructions rather than words.

I can't remember which type you do what with, I guess you won't know til they fruit.

If it's going in a container may I suggest you do that and keep it inside where it's protected from the frosts, cut the cane to 6 inches and see how it performs. If it's a summer producer you'll not get any fruit from one cane any way.

When it grows, you will need to support the canes somehow as they get quite long droop.

Possibly a series of bamboo canes leaning out almost like a "V". mine have been in the ground now 2 years and are about 4' high.
I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.

                    veg crazy

Summer-fruiting raspberries only usually produce fruit on two-year-old stems.
The stems grow in year 1, then fruit in year 2. In the winter after they fruited, the oldest stems are cut down to the ground, leaving any young stems that grew in that season - those young stems will fruit the following year.
In other words, it's a two-year fruiting cycle.

Autumn-fruiting raspberries produce late fruits on the youngest canes. At the end of the season, all canes are cut down and the whole plant re-grows and fruits the next season.
In other words, it's a one-year fruiting cycle.
                    .

Raspberries don't need pollinators, as far as I know.
Besides, if they were self-incompatible and you had bought two of the same type (e.g. Malling Leo), then it's still the same variety, so couldn't pollinate it's clone.

i bought a few last year they were on 2 for 1 hence the reason i bought quite a few. i bought all diffrent types of things. i didnt have a great deal of succsess but to be fair a few of them are still alive so i am hoping in a couple of years i might get something of them.

Have bought ten Glen Ample canes & put them in before Xmas. I think they are summer fruiting so I wont get fruit this year then? ...but at least the 'what to prune theory' is finally starting to make sense - have struggled to get my head around it lol!!
