in the feburary edition of GYO there was an article about tropical fruit, such as dragon fruit and pommegrantte, i was wondering, does anyone know the best time to sow the seeds recoverd from the fruit?

also does anyone have any suggestions of other tropical fruit the would work in an unheated greenhouse?

I'm trying this myself this year with Melon and Papaya seeds. I would just find somewhere that sells the seeds you are interested in and take note of their propagating instructions.

Oh and don't buy a lime with a view to collecting the seeds like I did.. *sighs*

I just had a Google "grow pomegranate" and got this: Grow Exotic Plants For Free

Well done. I've got some Dragon seedlings on the go too, sent to me by a kindly grape.

Last year I germinated some passion fruit seeds which I over-wintered in the greenhouse, they were easy to do from shop bought fruit which were sown about this time last year. As far as I remember covered them with compost and placed in propegator.Don't think I'll get any fruit but been fun trying.

I've grown Melon pear/Pepino in tubs outside and then overwintered in greenhouse with fleece. They seem to fruit quite late in the year and I was picking fruit in Dec and Jan. Not massive flavour but very juicy and sweet.

This year I'm trying pomegranate and papaya, early days as only a couple have germinated so far.

i got about a dozen papaya plants growing in my unheated greenhouse,so far they are about 2 cm tall, i done melons a couple years ago with great success had about 22 melons .with the melons all i done was water them 2 aday and leave a tub of water on the greenhouse path to help with the humidity. then as the fruit comes put net under them to keep them off the floor. the papaya is going to be trail and error
