If your ground isn't waterlogged or frozen solid, get them in

I planted some raspberrys yesterday and covered with polythene while they establish as where expecting snow!!! you could dig a hole and heel them in together till ya ready to plant them in there final position. the sooner you get them in the sooner you'll get fruit, but i wouldn't recomend keeping them in the bag. If anything soak them in a bucket of water.

I also grabbed a couple, and are soaking in a couple of buckets.

Last years hardly grew, so this year I was thinking of using pots instead.

Would this be ok, and realistically how many plants should I have?

Thanks for any pointers, determined to get some fruit this year

I grow some soft fruits in pots dandamegs. Not really necessary because you have to think about feeding and keeping moist. If you still have last year's in the soil then they should do better this year. Often the bushes need that extra year to settle in. The number of plants you need depends on how much fruit you want so can't advise but don't give up on last year's.
Why didn't Noah just swat those 2 greenflies?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

              Thanks Sarraceniac,

Last years are still in the garden, can't say I have checked them for a while.

I honestly have no idea what to expect.

I have a blackberry & raspberry from last year, plus same and a blueberry sat in buckets.

Don't bother checking now. Check in June. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

I found one in the snow, and it is definately sprouting new leaves

How long can I leave these in buckets of water?

                  Snow stopped play again today

As soon as you get frost and snow free then get them in the soil. If your area looks set to continue with horrible weather I would loosely plant them in a pot until it is past. Or you could do as krazy krok suggests and temporarily put them in the ground and fleece them. I think planting up from a pot is easier though.
