  • Berries in pots

Recieved my (subscription, free gift) Blueberry bush, and order of Blackcurrent and Raspberry canes. Unfortunately, I now find that I do not have the time to prepare space in the garden for these. Can anyone tell me if they will survive the first season in pots. If so, what size pots and what compost should I use.

Yes they should be ok in pots, You need to use erricaceous soil (lime). However my freebie from GYP died in a pot. I think this was due to the frosts tho.

Thanks WiZer. Do you mean to use erricaceous soil for all 3 berry types. Do they need large spacious pots, or deep and narrow tree pots, or small restrictive pots.

        Blueberries

I have my blueberries in a largish terracota pots, nothing dear only a 12" pot and they have thrived well in there, just keep the ericaceous in mind.

As for raspberries, try and get them in the ground or if you do in a pot, make sure they're well supported and have good drainage. It's best just to put them in the ground and then move them later on so the root system can get going.
