  • Alpine Strawberry Seeds

I am trying to grow my own Alpine Strawberries from seed and I currently have a failure rate of +90% The seeds germinate fine, grow to about 5mm, then flop over and die. In my first sowing (part of Moon Trials) I have 4 healthy seedlings out of approx 80 odd seeds. Are you meant to have such a high failure rate? (I got 250 seeds in a packet, does not say on the packet about high failure rate) Seeds are not cold, over watered, in direct strong sunlight etc (all the usual suspects) Any ideas?

    Too early?
I wouldn't sow them until end of March, myself

I thought maybe too early but the packet says January-March. Lesson learned

I got the urge to plant stuff Think it's just as well I've ordered in Himalayan Strawbs - plants not seeds!

You can do peas now, in a cold greenhouse. Or broadies

Already started my peas, don't grow broadies. Got more spring onions on the go, my chillies (doing lovely), some tomatoes (Russian type). Lupins and sweet peas on the go as well. I just had this packet of strawberry seeds urging me to plant them
