can I grow my potted vine on my warm & sunny balcony without it taking over what limited space I have already, it is already well established with lots of healthy grapes, I would love it to do well any advice for a novice grape grower?

I've just purchased a grape vine myself and I've begun to really read around the subject of them, and I've plopped mine in a pot just for the first year, to make sure it settles in and can develop a good root system.

In inverness,it wont be pinot noir but pinot brrrrrrrrrrr...you are a brave man, having said that ,we now have 7 figs growing on our plant, outdoors, unprotected all year...good luck with the vine.you can now buy nematodes to water onto your pots to kill vineweavils,so no chemicals...if you put your vine into a 18ins min pot,put in a 2ins thick stake, and add a cross shape flat on top (4ft height),you could then grow your vine as a standard, just an idea....

Bit late to this thread but I know that northerness of vines has been discussed before. As has been said, growing in pots isnt an issue at all, but I would be more optimistic than some on here about your chances of getting fruit.
So Ardroil, what news on your grape project?

I'm keen to learn how Ardroil got on with the vine, did you get any fruit?. A friend gave me a vine the other week "Vitis Bianca" and I had planned planting it in the greenhouse border when the toms come out.

I've been reading up on growing them and watching youtube vids all morning but i'm still not sure whether I should grow it up one cane and have two cordons at the top or have two or three cordons on the way up....... any help would be appreciated. (Edit: I found the best way to grow it in my greenhouse so cancel that help request )

It would seem such a waste of space and effort though if there isn't much chance of me getting any fruit from it being too far north.

if i can get figs to grow unprotected just south of you ,you should give it a try, stick it in a big pot, train it as a standard, then you can put it back into the g/house to give it some protection over winter and a few weeks start each spring to lengthen the growing season..good luck....
