  • goji berry seeds

i have just acquired some goji berry seeds

can anyone give advice on the best way to grow.

I'm thinking propagate on the windowsill for a while then transfer to the garden when looking big enough.

will they last outdoors all year round when grown?

can i plant them direct into the ground or are they best in a pot on the patio?

does anyone have any advice please as I'm new to this.
    thanks

I keep mine inside until they were 6" tall and put them outside.
i started them in a pot, only watering them every now and then and had cling film over the top until the seedlings were about to touch it. They seemed to take ages to do anything then suddenly they were sprouting everywhere.
aparently they are quite hardy once they are established so you can leave them outside, they like full sun and dont like wet feet.

Last year I experimented with a packet of goji berry's from Holland and Barrett. I scrapped the seed from the berry, chitted the seed on kitchen towel. Once chitted then sown in some compost and grew a goji berry bush. Its about 4 inches tall and has been left out in the garden over the winter and has buds on it.
I have just kept it on the patio in a pot and its looking ok.

They are sweet. Once you first taste them, you will just keep eating them. Thats what I found with them. Sort of a cross between a raisin and cranberry. I tried the dried ones you get in the health food shops. I liked them, you can get a packet for about 99p.

Thanks for the tip Herbie, I have never thought of using dried berries to start a Goli bush. I might call in at the health shop next time I pass by.

I remember reading that young plants needed protection for their first winter but after that they are hardy and need no special treatment. Have a look on here for propagation info
