  • What size pot for a blueberry plant?

As the title says really I have just received 3 blueberry plants today and want to grow them in tubs. At the moment they are only in small pots and I want to pot them on tomorrow. I know I need to get special compost (I know the name of it just can't spell it) but also wondered whether I should just go for really large pots straight away or whether to get slightly smaller ones and pot on each year?

I started with my blueberries in pots and did not get good results. (Watering is a pain for any pot grown plants.) I eventually planted them out in my allotment - large holes filled with ericaceous compost - and they look healthier and are producing much more fruit. If you do go down the pot route then I would use at least 10" deep pots. I would not recommend disturbing the roots by frequent re-potting.

If I was to plant them in the ground how do you keep the soil acidic? Do you have to keep adding ericaceous compost all of the time?

        Hello
My blueberries are in pots that are about 12 inches in diameter and about 2 foot deep

I thought I'd try both! So I've got a couple of pots and the last one will go in the ground with a lot of ericaceous compost. I got nice deep pots sp we'll see how we get on.
          Thanks for your replies

I am also about to try to plant blueberries in pots and see how they do. Aside from the watering thing, and the depth of the pot thing, and the ericaceous soil thing . . . anything else I should know? Did anyone get good results? Any particular fungus or bug problems I should watch for?

              Thanks in advance!

                This should help.

Use any ericaceous feed. They are usually sold for azaleas and rhododendrons but ideal for blueberries as well. Vitax markets one for example.
