  • Cherry Trees and bending

Hi All, the boyfriend brought me a cherry tree on colt rootstock the other weekend after me saying I would like one. When I looked into the height of the cherry tree on the colt rootstock I can never actually get a correct answer as to how tall it can grow. Some say 8-10ft others say 12-16ft whilst others say 20ft plus. Can anyone be more helpful

Also, I found a website that says you can bend the branches of the cherry on colt rootstock downwards and limit the height to around 7-10ft. Has anyone tried the bending technique?

Whack your tree details into this and it'll give an idea:

      > Tree size estimator <

I see that Colt isn't yet listed, but it is roughly equivalent to apple MM111 and a little more vigorous than MM106, St.Julien A or Quince A.

Good pruning can keep a tree at about half that size.
