Lingonberries

Hi Folks,

Lingos are like cranberries and blueberries in the conditions they favour, acid soil thats rich and well drained. They don't mind pots and like blues and cranberries are tough enough to stay out side in the winter but avoid water logging, direct winds and sun. If you grow them like blues and cranberries (top dress with acid compost each spring and a acid feed every 2 weeks during the growing season) they will grow away happily.

What do you use for "Acid feed" as would like to try some on my blueberries

you can buy boxes of ericaceous feed from the garden centre, not sure if there is a home-made equivalent

Ray Mears on Beeb Stone Age diet (?) this week was eating them, had quite positive things to say about them.

Seemingly they will keep when put in a jar of clean water!

Mind you, Ray eats some very strange things!!

Look for ericaceous feed for acid loving plants, like heathers etc. You can buy it in liquid form which is handy if you have under-planted a blueberry with cranberries and can't get at the soil easily. I use a feed that also has Iron in it, not sure why but it helps acid loving plants.

Thank you Geordievik and Garden fan. In Feb edition of GYO there is a short section Headed "Blueberry Maintenance" and recomends"Sulphate of Ammonia"
