  • hi,new here.

ive been gardening for about 10 years now,but i am pretty new to fruit and veg growing,so i need all the help i can get.i,ve done tomatoes for the last 2 years, with very good results, but thats about it.my aim is to grow as many edible things as my space will allow, and thats not much.this year i want to add to my collection so i have a ton of questions.
so,strawberries.can i grow them in hanging baskets.do i need to feed them, and what with?also, how many plants would i need to provide a decent crop.i have a wild strawberry, which is yummy,so happy with that.i am keen on getting a perpetual strawberry, can anyone advise on this.for the last couple of years, ive had a few plants(last year 24) varying from early to mid season cropping, but the results have been short lived and disappointing, and i dont really have the room to grow them in the ground.i would be really glad of ANY advice.

You found the Search button ~ there is lots of info in the archives.

Personally, I would only expect a strawb to last one year in a basket ... unless you change the soil each year.

In what way was your previous crop disappointing? Flavour/yield?

        Hi,
I'm growing some Strawberries in a couple of hanging baskets. The baskets are slightly smaller than those given in the link so I'm growing 3 to each one:

thankyou for the replies.i found the link helpful.ive seen some large metal cone baskets, and thought that maybe i could put 4 in the top,and then 3 or 4 around the cone.
my disappointment last year was with the yield really, the few i picked were tasty enough.that said, the slugs got to quite a few,and the summer was pretty miserable.i did have them in full sun though.
do strawbs need pollinating?silly question i know.and is there any way you can increase flower/fruit production?i have heard that they do better in their 2nd year.i have quite a few plants made from last years runners, but they are in the (as yet) otherwise empty(apart from the weeds) flower beds.some of them have already got flower buds on them,so i am loathed to move them, but we will be getting a new fence soon,so if i dont, they will get trampled anyway.i am reasonably confident with that though,as i often move things in flower sucessfully, the knack is to keep as much soil on as possible.
