    Hi

didn't know whether to post here or in fruity section but I think my strawbs of 1-2 years old have leaf scorch and the leaves seem to have eventually died after turning reddy brown leaving virtually just the crowns there. Do I give up on them? they are in containers - should I compost them or burn them, is it contagious? they are some of my fev strawbs that have produced well in the past 2 years or so

    thanks!

I've moved you to Fruity Saraheliz, because it's not certain that this is a pest or disease you might get more help here

It's what they do Sarah, mine do it all the time and then the following spring they come back. I just pull off the leaves and burn or compost them, doesn't seem to do any harm and the crowns should regenerate themselves.

I've lost a lot of my new strawberries that I bought in this year (all bar one of the Honeoye, and some Elvira).

They just died ... while their brothers and sisters thrived. Same soil, same treatment.

Mine were left in the pot they grew in last year over winter and looked mostly dead. In Feb I cut off everything that was dead or dodgy looking and planted the crowns in the ground. About 75% survived, put on a good growth spurt in the last couple of weeks and are now flowering.

Have a tug of the plant Sarah and make sure they still have roots. Strawberries are a favourite of vine weevil. which eat the roots. I have lost a complete raised bed this winter to them. They like container and raised bed ones that have been planted in multi purpose compost. I think all strawberries should have shown a sign of life by now.

Flowering? Can I have your autograph (and secrets) please. Mine are looking healthy leaf-wise but flowering? What variety are they? Must be real earlies.

To my shame I don't know what variety they are. Last year was my first ever growing year and I hadn't realised that taking notes would be sensible! last year they flowered and fruited through the summer, so I'm really pleased most of them survived. I might have to get a couple of fillers though to replace the ones that didn't make it.

All mine in flower and some with strawberries on (though still green)
Have to say they are in an un-heated greenhouse.
Have a container which lives outdoors permenantly and they are just starting to flower now.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
