Goosegogs in a Greenhouse

When I got home last night I noticed the start of sawfly nibbles on the leaves of my potted goosegog, I removed the offending creatures and have moved the goosegog into the greenhouse to try and stop further egg laying,

Is there any problem with growing a goosegog in a greenhouse? It is laden with newly forming fruit and so I wanted to protect it as much as possible and I hadn't any netting I could have thrown over it. I'm not sure how big the sawfly is so wasn't sure how fine the mesh needed to be.

I don't see why not- although it's a bit of a waste of space.
I think the sawfly come up from the soil????....might be a good idea to wrap something round the base in case there are any pupae in the pot already, to prevent them going up onto the plant.

Sawfly flies are about 1cm long.Fine environmesh should do the trick

Thanks Nicos, that area of my greenhouse is currently empty (only built it a week ago) and until the growbags are bought and installed it can easily take the goosegogs.

Knowing that they lay dormant in the soil means I may not need to have them in there as I thought it was an air borne problem. I'll root around the soil and see if the cocoons are in there and deal with them.

There is so much fruit and I've nurtured it for 3 years this is the first year there has been quite such an abundance and I don't want to lose it!

You've got me worried about mine too now!!!!...I'm going to have a quick check- they too are covered in fruit!!
It's their first year here- and no-one nearby has gooseberries- so if I do get them, I'll have brought them with me from the lottie!
