I found a caterpiller

When I was out looking at my apple trees yesterday I found one small off white caterpiller on the leaf of one of them. They have sticky bands round and I am putting up coddling moth traps today , they say put up in May - sept . Am I too late . By the way I squashed it and will go back and search for any more today .

I have now found 3 . Do you think they are the same type as get into your apples and eat their way out . If so I should have put the traps out earlier but i did what it said on the box.

The traps dont do much apart from tell you there is likely to be a problem, that needs sorting out

myself for caterpilers i spray the trees with the a pesticide called dipel , its quite safe to use as these things go as its a bacteria extract not a man made synthetic chemical, its allowed in most/all organic growing worldwide, you can spray on fruit and eat the next day even, spray all the leaves and anything that eats it just stops wanting to eat and dies, it doesnt harm things like bees either

Thanks I will get some . I think Iv'e got them all now and there isn't any holes in the fruitletts . So hopefully I was in time .

Dipel (Thuricide) isn't licensed for amateur use? Where do you acquire it?

OK , I won't be getting that then . The trees are still small so I will just keep looking for them and kill on sight .
