helo i live in spain and i cant get any gooseberry planats i wondered if anybody could save some seeds from one fruit of gooseberry and send them to me i could swap for loquat seeds nispero
Wrong time of year Ophiopogon. For seed, the gooseberries are just ripening so about another 6 weeks min. and for cuttings (the usual way of propagating, takes years from seed) they are best taken in autumn. No good taking cuttings whilst plants are fruiting but they are fairly easy. PM me in September saying whether you want green, red or yellow.
Why didn't Noah just swat those 2 greenflies?
Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

Gooseberries are best 'layered' by pegging down a branch into the soil, similar to a strawberry runner.

Possibly. But then they told me that Yorkshire is too cold for some of the things I grow, Callistemon, Echium pininana, Arundo donax etc. I was caught out last winter by the cold snap and couldn't fleece the tall echiums anyway but things were fine. I take the view that if you want something then go for it (or grow for it ). I reckon gooseberries only need a short winter chill which you can get most years in Spain, especially the higher parts.

it dropped one night en valencia to minus 4 degrees last winter
banans froze last winter too , they have rhubarb in the valencia botanical garden
strawberries and rasapberries do okay here
you could try cycad, maybe i could could send yo a small plant of a cycad for the cuttings
i aslo have seedlings of olive trees
I have plenty of cycads thanks. Revoluta, panzihuensis, guizhouhensis, Macrozamia communis and a couple more. I love growing 'impossible' plants for this area. I succeeed about 80% of the time. I did lose my olive last winter though (it was very cold and just a young plant) so a baby olive would be nice but it isn't a necessary trade (I don't sell or trade plants, if I send one to someone it is a gift. )
I reckon if raspberries grow where you are then gooseberries should be OK. The finest raspberries in the world grow in the Tay valley in Scotland. Not cold by Scottish standards but not exactly the Caribbean . They like a chill as well.

The way this thread was going I was beginning to wonder whether it was Cape Gooseberries seeds that were required!
