blueberry in pots - how big?

hello you lovely lot,
am trying to grow blueberries for the first time, but they are beginning to look a bit sorry - am watering with rain water, little and often
i put them in a pot a bit bigger than the one they came in - about 5" across
it's come to my attention that they need to be in a bigger pot
any idea how big?
i read something that said i need to inspect the rootball every spring to see if it needs repotting - i have no idea how to do this either!?

Yep they need a bigger pot - blueberry bushes although not huge will grow to a couple of foot. Mine's in a 13" pot that's 11" deep.

Mine are in a bucket size pot and have been for 2 years now . They seem really happy in that size and I will leave it another couple of years before I go up another size .

Bought my small blueberry bush several months ago and planted it in an 18 inch square box and the sides were lined with plastic (so we don't have to keep transplanting it). The bottom is open and sits on the soil in the allotment. It was planted in compost that is used for azaleas etc (as directed by its label). Water with rain water out of the waterbutt or it gets rained on. It has plenty of small flowers at the moment and looks quite healthy (compared it with my neighbour's on the allotment - although hers is bigger and older). Can't wait for the fruit (should be cheaper than buying them in the supermarket). Here's hoping!
