  • Moving gooseberry bushes

I have four gooseberry bushes, about 10 years old. I would like to move them to another part of the garden. Can anyone advise whether this feasible, and if so, when would be the best time to do it. I want to keep on growing gooseberries, in fact I planted 4 new ones last year, I just want to move the older ones to a different position. The ground is heavy clay.

You should ideally wait until the bushes are dormant in winter before moving them. I moved a 10-year old bush last winter into heavy clay soil and it's doing fine now. You need to prune them this summer so they can make a bit of growth before the winter. Dig up as big a rootball as you can and fill the new hole with compost. A good layer of mulch and plenty of water and they should take, no problem. Make sure you space them far enough apart. Mine has loads of fruit on it this year.

On a kind of related note, my new Gooseberry bush (planted start of the year) now has teeny tiny goosegogs on it but they look white with mould - anyone know the cause & solution please?

      p.s. sorry to hijack thread

Can you help a goosberry virgin? We have one new bush, looks very healthy, plenty of new berrys growing bigger every day.
But a lot of the new leaf growth is curling up. Any advice?
