  • Apple Pest - Thrip ? ? ?

Checking my apple trees, I noticed that something is eating the leaves.
Some have huge chunks or half the leaf missing.

I did see some small green insects, which are same size as aphids, but a flatter profile, and a more pointed tail .

    Any ideas ?

Some of mine have large chunks eaten out of the leaves. Allegedly, birds and other predators look for signs (such as tatty leaves) to identify where their next caterpillar dinner might be.
I'm afraid that I don't know the cause but probably some kind of caterpillar; I'd tolerate up to 1/4 of the leaf area being destroyed before I thought about taking action.
