loquat?

Anybody out there growing a loquat? (Eriobotrya japonica) - I found one in a garden centre today but read that they don't often fruit in this country. Was wondering if anybody had managed to get them to fruit as they fruit about now so would be a useful fruit to have when there's not much else about

I grew one from seed about 8 years ago.
Didn't want it growing too big so I sort of bonsai d the roots.
Tis now about 2ft tall with huge leaves- never flowered, but it's never been hotter than a normal kitchen windowsill.
We ate the fruit in Haifa in Israel- was growing in a garden ..I think they need the esp hot summers to do well.
